Roughly one million pounds was gathered from the royal wedding of Prins William and Kate, during the wedding they put up a fund for people to donate money for the 26 good causes selected by the now married couple. £559,104 was donated by the public and the wedding guests through the fund's website. Another £252,263 was paid directly to the selected charities.
A further £247,000 was made through the sales of the official wedding album and of portraits of the couple taken by the photographer Mario Testino.
A spokesman for the couple said: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted that these charities are able to benefit so positively from their special day.
“They would like to thank everyone who donated and contributed so generously to the charitable fund and for all the kindness and support shown to them throughout the wedding period.”
I think it's great that even on their wedding day they still remembered the slightly unfortunate which makes their marriage all the more special then it already was. Eventhough I did not watch the wedding myself I might just have a look at it since it was no longer an act of spending the most money you can in a short amount of time since instead of doing that very thing, they gave it a positive twist by also starting a fund for some charities that could always use a helping hand and one mullion pounds is one big helping hand!
